Friday we decided to head up to Salt Lake and take a dip in the super salty waters. From reviews online the best spots to swim are off Antelope Island so we googled the directions and headed out. Unfortunately Google got it wrong and sent us to the wrong location to drive out to the island (it would have worked if the truck turned into a boat). The drive back to the right spot would have taken too long so we were limited to a few pictures from the road.
The first picture is looking out at Antelope Island which is off the south east shore. Some interesting facts about the lake:
After checking out the lake we headed for Pat and Jerry’s home in Eagle Mountain Ut. This was our second visit to their home, with the first occurring several years ago after they first moved there, and wow has the area changed. Developers have gone nuts building communities along the road leading to their home. The only thing they forgot? To widen the road… you think traffic is bad in LA? Check out this two lane highway.
Okay it wasn’t that bad just a lot of cars for such a small country road.
What really makes driving in Utah bad is the few but very visible crazy drivers who seem to have a death wish. Case in point occurred the next day while driving to Idaho. There had been a bad traffic accident blocking 3 lanes of traffic. Most everyone was crawling along as traffic filtered down to one lane and around the closed lanes. Things were moving but not fast enough for our Darwins. A few decided the shoulder was a good place to pass and that 60 was an appropriate speed to travel (rest of traffic was moving <5). The real winners, one of which was on a Harley, decided that a dirt embankment down to the adjacent on-ramp was even better. Mr Harley guy came 2 feet from becoming a permanent part of the road… we digress.
Back to Friday, Eagle Mountain is located 9 miles west of Lehi in a valley. Pat and Jerry own a home nestled in a community on the east side of said valley. Their home is a beautiful one story with finished basement. They have worked hard to make this place a really nice home and it shows.
Jerry Bar-B-Qued some chicken and Pat made the veggies. We had a nice meal and discussion followed by some pre-season football on television, all in all a peaceful evening and fun time in Salt Lake City.
